Bondo: The Andiwo Obondo Foundation has made a generous donation of soccer kits valued at Sh. 300,000 to twenty-two comprehensive schools in Bondo Sub-County, Siaya County. This initiative aims to support the development of sports talents within schools.

According to Kenya News Agency, the donation event was held at Gobei Comprehensive School, where Thomas Andiwo, the Director of the Foundation, highlighted the ongoing efforts to nurture sports talents in the region. To date, the foundation has benefitted 60 schools and 25 community clubs through similar initiatives.

In his address, Mr. Andiwo emphasized the foundation’s commitment to supporting various initiatives such as bursaries, bicycle programmes, and environmental conservation. He noted that fostering talent is a crucial element of the government’s Competency-Based Education (CBE) system. By providing sporting kits to schools and community clubs, the foundation aims to enhance student engagement in sports and boost their confidence to excel.

Mr. Andiwo acknowledged the limited resources available to the foundation, highlighting the need for increased government investment in talent nurturing. He also urged other foundations and well-wishers to contribute towards making sports kits accessible to schools that cannot afford them.

Gobei Comprehensive School’s Principal, Mr. Otai Joseph, expressed gratitude to the foundation for the donation. He mentioned that the school previously had to borrow kits for matches, which affected student confidence. He stressed the importance of support in various areas, including music, art, dance, and sports, under the CBE system to fully develop students’ potential.

Francis Ooko Oloo, the school’s Board of Management Chair, also thanked the Andiwo Obondo Foundation for their support and encouraged regional leaders to follow suit for the benefit of future generations.
