Wajir: Former Wajir gubernatorial aspirant Hassan Mohamed Aden has called on residents to turn out in large numbers for the ongoing voter registration exercise to boost the county’s political influence in national and county elections. Speaking at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices in Wajir, Aden, who declared interest in contesting the governor’s seat in 2027, said voter registration was key to ensuring the region’s population is well represented.

According to Kenya News Agency, Aden emphasized the importance of increasing the number of registered voters in Wajir, which currently stands at about 200,000. He stressed that enhancing these numbers would make Wajir’s population more consequential in presidential, national, and county elections.

Aden highlighted the challenges posed by Wajir’s vast landmass, covering about 60,000 square kilometers, in mobilizing eligible voters. He insisted on the necessity of deliberate efforts to reach all communities within the region.

He stated the importance of electing leaders who are responsive to the needs of the community, emphasizing that active participation in the voter registration process is crucial. Aden urged the involvement of religious leaders, teachers, administrators, and local institutions in sensitizing and mobilizing residents to register as voters.

Moreover, Aden commended IEBC officials in Wajir for their support and commitment to enhancing voter education across the county.
