Narok: Property worth millions of shillings was today reduced to ashes at Narok Full Gospel Church after a fire razed down a dormitory located at the church compound that houses rescued girls.
According to Kenya News Agency, the cause of the fire was not immediately established, but a spot check showed the girls trying to rescue property from the dormitory before the fire overwhelmed them. The efforts of the residents were crucial in extinguishing the fire after their attempts to contact the County Government Disaster Management Department were unsuccessful.
Njoroge Kinyanyui, who volunteered his water truck to help put out the fire, urged the county government to service the fire engines in the county to better respond to fires, which have become more frequent during this sunny season. Joseph Karanja, a boda boda operator who also assisted in extinguishing the blaze, criticized the county government for not taking action, as the fire lasted for an hour without any presence from county officials.
Francis Waratho, a resident of the Majengo area, expressed gratitude to water vendors and water boozers for their assistance in putting out the fire.
