Eldoret: The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) North Rift Region has reported receiving 270 allegations of corruption and unethical conduct over the past year, with 121 cases recommended for further investigation.
According to Kenya News Agency, EACC North Rift Regional Manager, Maj. (Rtd) Kuntai Ole Tingisha, announced that these reports were sourced from six counties within the region, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to combat corruption and uphold ethical standards. Ole Tingisha stated, “We received a total of 270 reports over the last one year, out of which 121 were recommended for investigation and assigned to the relevant departments for further action.”
The North Rift region, comprising Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, Turkana, and Elgeyo Marakwet counties, has received a cumulative total of 1,320 reports over the past five years. Uasin Gishu led with 52 reports recommended for investigation, followed by Nandi with 22, Trans Nzoia with 19, West Pokot with 12, Elgeyo Marakwet with 10, and Turkana with six.
Ole Tingisha shared these details during a public participation and stakeholder engagement forum in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, where the EACC discussed its proposed budget estimates for the 2027/2028 financial year. The reports identified for investigation were distributed to various EACC departments, including Forensic Investigations, Operations, Asset Tracing, and Ethics and Leadership.
The Commission’s scorecard revealed that 13 reports were referred to other agencies, 16 were marked for no further action, and 103 complainants received advice. An additional 17 complainants were asked to provide more information.
The EACC is currently dealing with significant cases of alleged embezzlement of public funds, asset tracing, and unethical conduct across the six counties. Uasin Gishu has 12 cases under investigation, valued at Sh5.45 billion. Turkana has six cases valued at Sh1.03 billion, while Trans Nzoia has eight cases valued at Sh703.26 million. Nandi has 11 cases valued at Sh151.58 million, Elgeyo Marakwet has four cases valued at Sh39 million, and West Pokot has five cases valued at Sh36 million.
The public participation forum is part of the Commission’s efforts to engage stakeholders in preparing its budget and Medium-Term Expenditure Framework for the 2027/2028-2029/2030 financial period.
