Tharaka nithi: Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on Kenyans to support the proposed Vision 2060 development agenda, saying it provides an opportunity for the country to chart a long-term path towards economic transformation beyond electoral cycles.
According to Kenya News Agency, speaking at his Irunduni home in Tharaka Nithi County, Kindiki stated that President William Ruto’s proposal for a national dialogue on Vision 2060 aims to create an all-inclusive development blueprint that will guide Kenya’s growth for posterity. He emphasized the importance of viewing the initiative as above partisan politics, stressing that while elections are periodic, national development plans have a lasting impact on the country’s social and economic transformation.
Kindiki remarked, “The elections will come and go. There will be a winner and there will be one who does not win, but all remain Kenyans,” highlighting the need for unity in pursuing national development goals. He reiterated the Kenya Kwanza Administration’s commitment to continue its development agenda, seeking public support based on its performance in implementing key projects nationwide.
The Deputy President pointed out that the government had successfully revived more than 6,000 kilometers of previously stalled road projects after settling Sh177 billion in pending payments owed to contractors. In Tharaka Nithi County, he mentioned that the construction of the Miomponi-Mukothima-Gachiongo-Gatunga road was progressing well, with 15 kilometers already completed.
Moreover, Kindiki announced the government’s implementation of a program to construct 600 modern markets across the country to enhance trading infrastructure and create more business opportunities for small-scale traders. He noted that the markets in Chuka, Chogoria, and Gatunga had already been completed, demonstrating the government’s commitment to regional development.
