Ijara: A 15-year-old disabled girl was defiled Thursday night and injured by a juvenile, well-known to her at their home in Bulla Haji location, Ijara sub county.
According to Kenya News Agency, the area chief, Hassan Dirir, stated that the victim had been left alone by her mother when the assailant sneaked in and defiled her. The helpless girl’s screams attracted neighbors who rushed to the scene and rescued her. The irate members of the public then apprehended the defiler and handed him over to officers at the Masalani police station.
Contacted, the officer commanding the police station, Joseph Mulanda, confirmed the incident, saying the culprit would be arraigned in court after investigations. Mulanda stated that the victim is hospitalized at Masalani Sub County referral hospital and is recovering well.
According to neighbors, the defiler knew the girl’s mother vends milk in Masalani town and was therefore confident he would carry out his mission undisrupted. The incident comes barely days after another minor was defiled by a man in a nearby bush after he threatened to stab her with a dagger, within Bulla Dur estate in Muhumed Dahir location, on the outskirts of Masalani town.
During the previous incident, the defiler fled and still remains at large, with residents now anxious that he could strike again. Contacted, area residents, mostly elders, condemned the incident and cautioned parents against leaving their children without caregivers, even as they go about their daily activities. The worried residents also challenged the police to apprehend many youths who walk around Masalani town armed with knives, terming them a threat to security.
