Mabinju village: Energy Cabinet Secretary (CS), Opiyo Wandayi, has hailed President William Ruto’s commitment to the welfare and development of Kenyans, including those from the Nyanza region. Speaking at Mabinju village in South Gem Location, Gem Constituency, during the launch of a rural electrification project, Wandayi urged the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders to remain firm and consistent regarding their position on the Broad-Based Government.
According to Kenya News Agency, Wandayi expressed concern over some leaders engaging in double-speak while benefiting from the government’s development interventions. He was accompanied by Gem Member of Parliament Elisha Odhiambo and criticized leaders attempting to destabilize the working relationship between ODM and the President, describing their actions as selfish and politically shortsighted.
Wandayi emphasized that the country’s political landscape is currently dominated by two major formations, one led by President Ruto and another by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, dismissing attempts to introduce a third force as unrealistic. He stated, ‘You are either with President Ruto or with Gachagua,’ highlighting the Nyanza region’s alignment with the President due to his ongoing development agenda.
On infrastructure, Wandayi announced that the government has allocated over Sh2.2 billion for rural electrification in Siaya County for the current Financial Year. He mentioned that Sh250 million will be dedicated to Gem Constituency alone, aiming to connect more than 4,000 households.
Wandayi further noted that the national government has invested billions in projects typically under county functions, demonstrating its commitment to enhancing local development. Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo praised the government’s efforts to uplift residents but criticized a section of Nyanza leaders for undermining those appointed by the President.
