Nairobi: The County Government of Uasin Gishu, through the Directorate of Alcoholic Drinks Control Board (ADCB), has initiated the screening and assessment of individuals set to join the County’s Rehabilitation and Treatment Centre in Moiben. This exercise, conducted on Monday, gathered prospective clients from the six sub-counties of Uasin Gishu in preparation for their admission to the facility the following Monday.
According to Kenya News Agency, those admitted will participate in a comprehensive 90-day rehabilitation and treatment program designed to aid their recovery and reintegration into society. ADCB County Director Koiya Arap Maiyo emphasized the importance of the screening exercise in determining the readiness and willingness of prospective clients to undergo rehabilitation. Maiyo stated that the process is essential to ascertain whether an individual has voluntarily chosen to undergo rehabilitation or has been coerced into the program, noting that successful rehabilitation requires the client’s willingness and commitment to the recovery process.
Maiyo further explained that the assessment also establishes clients’ eligibility and identifies underlying issues, including mental health concerns that may need specialized attention during rehabilitation. He highlighted that the comprehensive assessment will allow the rehabilitation team to understand the individual needs of each client and develop appropriate interventions throughout the 90-day program.
The screening was led by Mrs. Beatrice Tanui, Programme Officer in charge of Rehabilitation Services, alongside other officers from the Directorate. The County Rehabilitation and Treatment Centre provides free rehabilitation services to individuals seeking to overcome challenges related to alcohol and substance use. The program also incorporates various interventions, including medical, psychological, and social support.
