Ouagadougou: The Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, chaired the 2025 mid-term review session of the Sectoral Framework for Defense-Security Dialogue (CSD-DS) held in the conference room of the Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs. The session was designed to evaluate the security challenges the country faces and the progress made so far.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this session, held on July 31, 2025, in Ouagadougou, represented a crucial point for assessing the efforts by Burkina Faso’s authorities to address security challenges and contribute to implementing national development policy. It focused on monitoring the performance of the action plan for stabilization and development, aiming for a safer and more resilient future.
“This mid-term review is an essential mechanism for monitoring and evaluating the performance of our sector. It allows us to measure progress, identify our shortcomings, recognize successes and, above all, chart a realistic and ambitious course for the remainder of 2025,” stated Security Minister Mahamadou Sana during his opening speech.
The Minister acknowledged the significant efforts made during the first half of the year and called for collective commitment to tackle persistent security issues. He expressed gratitude to the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) for their dedication to securing the nation and its people.
He revealed that from January to June 2025, the country achieved a physical execution rate of 50% and a financial execution rate of 53%. This progress is evidenced by the formation of new rapid intervention brigades, enhanced tactical capabilities of FDS and VDP, stabilization of liberated areas, and the reorganization of the territorial network between the national police and the gendarmerie.
Minister Sana highlighted additional actions, including awareness campaigns against terrorism financing, urban crime, cybercrime, and road insecurity. He also noted economic and political initiatives like “Faso mªbo,” aimed at urban modernization, the National Tree Day centered on medicinal plants, and the Day of Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation.
The Minister assured that activities not completed in the first half of the year would be intensified in the coming months, emphasizing ongoing stabilization efforts, redeployment of forces, and return of populations to liberated areas.
He concluded by urging all stakeholders to remain mobilized, united, and disciplined to build a resilient Burkina Faso capable of withstanding threats.
