Amman:Bulgarian Patriarch and Metropolitan of Sofia, Daniil, visited the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ (Al-Maghtas) on Monday. This visit was part of a pilgrimage to Christian holy sites and included a visit to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem.
According to Jordan News Agency, Patriarch Daniil was accompanied by Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem and a patriarchal delegation. They were welcomed at the Baptism Site by His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, Chief Adviser to His Majesty the King for Religious and Cultural Affairs and His Majesty’s Personal Envoy, alongside Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Jordan Christophoros.
Prince Ghazi led the delegation on a tour that featured several important religious and historical landmarks. These included the site of Mar Elias, the spring and cave of St. John the Baptist, and the Church of St. Mary of Egypt.
During the visit, the Bulgarian patriarch also visited the Jordan River at the Baptism Site. The two patriarchs toured the Baptism Site International Orthodox University and were briefed about its facilities and academic programs.
This visit was part of ongoing ecclesiastical relations between the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, highlighting several sites associated with Christian pilgrimage in Jordan.
