Kasipul: Boyd Were of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party is now the MP-elect for Kasipul constituency, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has declared. IEBC returning officer Rebecca Obwaku announced Boyd Were as the MP-elect after he emerged top with 16,819 votes in the just-concluded November 27th by-election, in a race that attracted 10 candidates. Mr. Were’s closest challenger, Philip Aroko, an independent candidate, garnered 8,476 votes.
According to Kenya News Agency, the MP-elect is the son of the former Kasipul constituency MP, the late Charles Ong’ondo Were, who was killed by gunmen on a motorbike in Nairobi this year, necessitating the by-election. After being declared the winner, Mr. Were vowed to serve his constituents equally, promising to deliver on his campaign promises.
He received his winner’s certificate at Agoro Sare High School, where he thanked Kasipul residents for their support. According to IEBC, a total of 32,260 people turned up to vote out of 67,513 registered voters.
