Bondo: A Bondo-based blogger has been arrested for allegedly damaging the reputation of Yimbo East Member of the County Assembly (MCA), Francis Otiato. Boniface Ohindo, known as ‘Super B’, was apprehended at his residence by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) following complaints from Otiato that Ohindo was using social media platforms to harass him and misinform the public regarding Ward development projects.
According to Kenya News Agency, Bondo DCIO Reuben Onchoka confirmed the arrest and stated that Ohindo will be arraigned in court to face charges of cyber misuse and harassment. Meanwhile, residents of Yimbo East Ward, led by Erick Oyaro, visited Ohindo at Bondo Police cells and urged the MCA to consider resolving the issue out of court, noting that the accused was once his personal assistant. Margaret Akinyi, another resident, accused Otiato of instilling fear among those who question development projects and advised him to withdraw the matter to maintain a harmonious relationship with the electorate.
When approached for comments, Otiato revealed that he had previously attempted to communicate with the blogger, requesting him to cease publishing harmful information. Despite these efforts, Ohindo allegedly persisted in tarnishing Otiato’s reputation, prompting legal action. Otiato expressed his willingness to drop the case if Ohindo showed remorse and issued a public apology. However, he warned that failure to do so would result in further legal actions for damages incurred.
Otiato emphasized that, aside from his role as an MCA, he is a person with a family, and the dissemination of false information adversely impacts not only his reputation but also his family and children, who are also exposed to the malicious content.
