Al Shifaa Triumphs in Sisi Ni Dola Cup 2026

Mombasa: Al Shifaa FC emerged victorious in the Sisi Ni Dola Cup 2026, securing a 2-1 win against Green Eagles in the final match held at Mombasa Sports Club. The triumph concluded a five-week competition involving 24 teams from five Coast counties.

According to Kenya News Agency, Lawrence Dady gave Al Shifaa the lead in the 25th minute with an impressive overhead kick. Mohammed Juma extended the lead shortly after halftime with a remarkable long-range shot from his own half, catching Green Eagles’ goalkeeper William Mandanda off guard. Despite a penalty conversion by Swaleh Yanga for Green Eagles with 15 minutes remaining, Al Shifaa maintained their lead to clinch the title.

Al Shifaa’s victory earned them a Sh1 million grand prize, with Green Eagles receiving Sh500,000 as the runners-up. Coach Abdulnasser Kassim attributed the win to thorough preparation, revealing that his team had closely analyzed Green Eagles’ game since the semi-final stage. He also highlighted the importance of squad continuity, noting the retention of most players from last season with a few new additions.

Green Eagles’ coach, Davies Ikocheli, acknowledged the difficulty of conceding first but commended his team’s relentless pursuit of an equalizer until the very end.

The tournament also featured individual awards, with Joshua Oyoo of Fayaz FC and Enock Lemeyian of Juve FC sharing the Golden Boot for their five goals each. Green Eagles’ William Mandanda was recognized as the Best Goalkeeper, while Lawrence Okoth received the Player of the Tournament award. Ahmed Hussam of Mombasa Kings was named Young Player of the Tournament. Each award recipient was given a trophy and Sh20,000.

This year’s tournament marked a significant expansion from the previous edition, growing from a Mombasa-only competition to include teams from Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, and Lamu counties. Matches commenced on July 11 and concluded with the final on Friday, all hosted at Mombasa Sports Club.

Al Shifaa’s championship win comes after finishing third in the inaugural tournament. In the third-place playoff, Azzam United from Kwale County defeated Nyundo FC 2-1, securing Sh250,000 in prize money.
