Kenyans Encouraged to Prioritize Peace Ahead of 2027 Elections

Nairobi: As the countdown to the 2027 general elections continues, with political temperatures rising every day, Kenyans are being urged to maintain peace, cohesion, and tolerance. They have also been asked to evaluate leaders based on their development track records so as to make informed choices. Speaking during an empowerment forum in Gathera, Murang’a County Woman Representative Betty Maina further called on the political class to shun divisive politics, noting that their actions can destabilize the country.

According to Kenya News Agency, Maina emphasized that the period leading up to elections is volatile, and politicians need to ensure they do not drive the country towards violence, which can harm the economy and development. She urged Kenyans to safeguard their peace, emphasizing the freedom of expression, movement, and association within the country. Maina also addressed citizens, warning against political divisions and the influence of individual leaders, urging a focus on development over violence.

Maina encouraged the public to coexist peacefully and resist being manipulated by political leaders to advance personal agendas. She highlighted the importance of protecting businesses and livelihoods, regardless of political differences. Maina reminded citizens that while politics may come and go, maintaining peace and unity is crucial for the prosperity of the nation.

She further urged Kenyans to evaluate their leaders’ development records before the elections. With a year remaining until the polls, she advised citizens to scrutinize whether leaders have fulfilled their manifestos or are merely engaging in incitement. During the empowerment forum, business people were provided with umbrella shades to improve their working environments, and eight social groups received nonrefundable NGAAF funds to bolster their projects.
