Ainamoi NG-CDF Bursary Boosts Education Access Amid Economic Pressures

Ainamoi: Ainamoi Member of Parliament, Amb Benjamin Langat, has reaffirmed his commitment to expanding access to education through continued disbursement of National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) bursaries, noting that the programme remains a critical intervention in reducing school dropout rates among learners from low-income households. Langat made the remarks Friday at Kaptebeswet Secondary School in Kipchebor Ward, during a bursary disbursement ceremony that brought together education stakeholders, parents, and students.

According to Kenya News Agency, the exercise forms part of the Ainamoi NG-CDF education support programme, aimed at cushioning vulnerable families against the rising cost of secondary and tertiary education. The legislator observed that the current economic pressures facing households have significantly increased demand for bursary support across the constituency, stretching available allocations. However, the MP assured residents that the NG-CDF committee was working within its mandate to ensure equitable and transparent distribution of funds, with priority accorded to the most deserving cases.

‘Education is the greatest equalizer, and we must ensure that no child is locked out of school because of lack of fees,’ he said, emphasizing that the bursary programme is designed to keep learners in school regardless of their background. The MP further urged local education committees to uphold integrity in the selection process, warning against any form of bias or manipulation in beneficiary identification. ‘We must remain fair and transparent so that every shilling allocated reaches the most needy learners,’ he added.

Kipchebor Ward Member of County Assembly Eric Kipkirui Bett Watchman commended the NG-CDF initiative, describing it as a lifeline for many struggling families. ‘We appreciate the continued support from the NG-CDF office. Many families would not manage school fees without this intervention,’ he noted, calling for stronger collaboration between leaders and education stakeholders. He further called for strengthened accountability mechanisms to ensure timely and efficient disbursement of bursary funds across the constituency.

Education stakeholders present observed that NG-CDF bursaries continue to play a key role in improving school retention rates in the area, although increasing applications continue to outpace available resources. They appealed for sustained support and broader policy interventions to complement constituency-based funding in addressing long-term education financing challenges.
