Youth Encouraged to Spearhead Peace and Development Initiatives

Nairobi: The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) has announced the launch of the distributed renewable energy and clean cooking Project Preparation Facility

Kajiado: Kajiado North Deputy County Commissioner Yusuf Mohamed has urged local leaders to actively involve the youth in their initiatives.

According to Kenya News Agency, the DCC asked religious institutions, schools, and community-based organizations (CBOs) to convene forums that engage and involve the voices of the youth.

Yusuf, who was speaking during the Kajiado North peace and security meeting he co-chaired with Bishop Henry Omae of the Restoration of Life Centre Church, emphasized the urgent need to involve youths in intergenerational dialogues that must be spearheaded from the family level. The forum, which included members from all sectors in the sub-county, was convened to revamp and rejuvenate as well as brainstorm on the upcoming International Peace Day on September 21, 2025.

International Peace Day is an annual event dedicated to strengthening the ideals of peace among all nations. The youth will be engaged in activities such as peace dialogues, peace caravans, walks, sports activities, skits, and entertainment activities geared towards promoting peace and security in the sub-county. “These forums and activities are aimed at ensuring a peaceful and cohesive coexistence in Kajiado North, a step away from the recent protests that have affected the sub-county,” the DCC said.

Kajiado North is one of the five sub-counties in Kajiado County and is close to Nairobi, thus was affected by last month’s protests that took place in various parts of the country. During the meeting, a small committee was formed to coordinate and facilitate activities that will involve membership from all sectors.

In attendance were the Sub-County Security and Intelligence Committee members, DCC Madam Metrine Wafula, the Sub-County Administrator, Assistant County Commissioners (ACCs), Chiefs, and representatives from various sectors. The 2025 International Peace Day focus centers on the ‘Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’ and their direct link to global peace. Through this theme, the day highlights how addressing poverty, inequality, environmental threats, and injustice creates a stronger foundation for peace everywhere.
