Bungoma: National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has urged residents of Western Kenya to rally behind President William Ruto’s re-election bid, emphasizing the Kenya Kwanza administration’s delivery of tangible development projects across the nation as justification for a renewed mandate.
According to Kenya News Agency, Wetang’ula highlighted the government’s achievements in reviving key industries, investing in infrastructure, and expanding access to healthcare. He cited the revival of Mumias and Nzoia sugar factories, which has restored hope to cane farmers, with all public and private sugar mills now operational and farmers receiving timely payments.
Wetang’ula also underscored ongoing infrastructure projects, including major road constructions and the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway. The railway, previously stalled in Naivasha, is set to be extended through Narok, Kisumu, Luanda, Butere, Mumias, Bungoma, and finally to Malaba, significantly reducing travel time between Nairobi and Western Kenya and enhancing trade.
In terms of healthcare, Wetang’ula noted the government’s efforts in constructing Level Six hospitals in Bungoma and Kakamega counties to alleviate pressure on existing referral facilities. He praised President Ruto for equitably distributing development projects across the country, including roads, markets, affordable housing, and health facilities.
Addressing a boda boda empowerment drive in Lwandanyi, Bungoma County, Wetang’ula thanked Western Kenya voters for their support in the 2022 General Election and encouraged them to remain steadfast in backing Ruto’s re-election bid. He urged residents to acquire national identity cards and register as voters ahead of the next polls, highlighting the transformative impact of the boda boda sector on rural transport and employment.
The event, aimed at mobilizing support for President Ruto’s re-election campaign, saw the participation of senior Kenya Kwanza leaders, including presidential aide Farouk Kibet, Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, and several Members of Parliament and County Assembly.
Wetang’ula criticized leaders allied with the Linda Mwananchi movement for engaging in divisive politics and called for issue-based campaigns focused on development. Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka echoed this sentiment, urging residents to reject divisive politics and support President Ruto’s second-term bid to unlock further development projects in the region.
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa stated that the entire western region, comprising Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, and Busia, is united in support of President Ruto. He revealed a target of registering 4 million voters in the region ahead of the 2027 general elections, emphasizing the region’s commitment to Ruto’s leadership.
Presidential aide Farouk Kibet and Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot also urged residents to register as voters and support Ruto’s re-election, emphasizing the importance of continuity in leadership for completing ongoing development projects.
Meanwhile, several MPs criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former President Uhuru Kenyatta for promoting divisive politics. They urged residents to focus on President Ruto’s development record and support his re-election to ensure continued progress and transformation in the region.
