All smiles in Waita Main Prisons after church through Mwingi Pastors Association, Court Users Committee and Mwingi level IV staff teamed up to donate foodstuffs and other items to 310 prisoners in the correctional facility.
The foodstuffs which included bread, soft drinks, clothes, sanitary towels, soaps, and Bibles were presented to the inmates through the officer in charge, Mwingi main prison Chief Inspector Benjamin A. Limasia.
Speaking at the correctional facility, Rev. Stephen Mutisya of Revival Fellowship Church said that the church is committed to helping the vulnerable.
“Members of Pastors Association, in association with the CUC are committed in ensuring that the prisoners live a better life. Besides the gospel that we spread; we also help the physical life,” added Mutisya.
The Pastors encouraged the inmates to be reading the Bible as the word of God will uplift their spirit and give them hopes to live a better live in the prison as well as shape them to be responsible citizens once done with the sentence.
“The holy Bible will help you be responsible citizens and God fearing men, please read the Bible and encourage each other, “said Bishop Robert Mutemi.
On his part, Limasia thanked the Pastors’ Association, CUC and Mwingi general hospital staff for their kindness noting that the donation is huge boost for the facility.
He lauded the gesture by the well -wishers saying it would go a long way in helping the Main Prisons meeting prisoners’ needs. He urged other well-wishers to follow the suit and donates to Prisoners and other vulnerable groups in our society.
“We have 283 male prisoners and 27 female prisoners who are doing very well. I can comment that they have been corrected and they are changed people,” added Limasia.
He urged the citizens to always uphold the law. He added Waita Main Prisons is looking forward to release some prisoners who have completed their sentences.
A representative from Mwingi Level 4 Hospital promised to always team up with well-wishers to donate to the Prisons facility.
One of the female inmates who have so far served for nine years commended the well-wishers for helping the needy in places like prisons. She said the gesture has restored their human dignity.
Law Society of Kenya and Mwingi Court staff were also present.
