Nyali: The Said Abdallah Foundation has slaughtered 100 cows and donated meat in a philanthropic gesture targeting to reach hundreds of less fortunate families in Nyali Sub-county during the commemoration of the Eid-Ul-Adha festivals. Speaking during the slaughtering exercise in Mkomani, Chairperson and Businessman Said Abdallah, said the aim of the donation was to incorporate every family in the five wards in Nyali, as the world marks a significant fete in the Islamic calendar.
According to Kenya News Agency, the main aim of the initiative was to execute a large-scale distribution of meat to as many less fortunate families in Nyali as possible. Abdallah emphasized that the outreach also targets orphanages and special schools, which have traditionally been left out yet host a significant number of Muslim learners. This initiative ensures children in orphanages and special schools are not excluded from the celebrations.
Eid ul-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, is observed on the Tenth Day of Dhul Hijja in the Islamic lunar calendar, coinciding with the culmination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to the Holy City of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. The pilgrimage is one of the five pillars of Islam, obligatory only for those who are financially capable and in good health.
The Festival of Sacrifice holds significance in the Islamic faith as Muslims commemorate the Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son as commanded by God. Eventually, a ram was sacrificed in place of his son. After the Eid prayers, Muslims slaughter an animal in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s act. The meat from the slaughter is distributed in three portions: one for the family, another for friends and neighbors, and the final portion for the less fortunate.
