Vihiga: Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichillo has urged leaders across the county to remain focused on development and avoid early political distractions as the country moves closer to the 2027 General Election. Speaking during the Jamhuri Day celebrations at Moi Girls Vokoli in Sabatia Sub-County, the governor highlighted the significant progress made in various sectors while stressing the need for further development, particularly in areas impacting young people.
According to Kenya News Agency, Governor Ottichillo emphasized the importance of prioritizing development initiatives. He noted that despite advancements, challenges remain, especially in education and employment for the youth. ‘We have been able to focus, and because of that, we have progressed. But challenges remain, particularly in education. Our youth are educated, they are learned everywhere, but the challenge is employment. So let’s concentrate on how we can move forward as a county,’ he stated.
The newly posted County Commissioner, Peter Maina Mwangi, expressed his commitment to serving the residents diligently. He called for peace and security during the festive season, urging communities to collaborate with security agencies to maintain stability.
Deputy Governor Wilberforce Kitiezo supported the governor’s views, emphasizing the county’s development agenda. He highlighted ongoing plans to transition from reliance on Kenya Power to solar energy, aiming to reduce operational costs and promote sustainable energy use within the county.
The leaders collectively called for unity, development-centred leadership, and continued collaboration to ensure Vihiga remains on a steady growth path.
