Vihiga Governor Pledges To Implement Programmes For Socio-Economic Transformation

Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo has pledged to focus on implementing projects and actualizing policies that would spur socio-economic transformation in the county.

Dr Ottichilo said his administration has resorted to harnessing Information, Communications Technology (ICT) through a partnership with the Chinese Tech firm Huawei that has seen 170 young people trained in digital skills to be able to do online jobs.

He observed that ICT is an emerging and fast growing market for employment opportunities in various sectors and urged the young people to embrace it for their own good.

The governor, who was giving a state of county address at the county assembly on Thursday, asked the residents to integrate the latest technologies in all agricultural activities so as to boost productivity.

He stated that his administration has automated the revenue collection, a step that has sealed the loopholes in the manual system and thereby raised the figure of the local revenue realized.

The county head explained that in
the financial year 2022-2023 they realized Sh 229,848, 535 against the target of 284, 073, 208; a shortfall of Sh 54,224,673 but this year they intend to perform impressively.

He said that in order for the county employees to execute their duties optimally, they would be sponsored for regular training sessions to be kept abreast of the changing trends in their respective professions and trades.

The county boss promised to forge and sustain a cordial working relationship with the county assembly and other political leaders for the prosperity of the county.
