Vihiga: Heads of National Government departments in Vihiga County have been urged to strengthen collaboration and coordination to improve service delivery to residents.
According to Kenya News Agency, the call was made during a Vihiga County service delivery meeting chaired by the newly appointed County Commissioner, Jeremiah Gicheru. The meeting brought together heads of various National Government departments to discuss ways of improving coordination and ensuring efficient implementation of government programmes.
Gicheru called for unity, teamwork, and effective communication among departments, emphasizing that close collaboration was essential in addressing challenges affecting service delivery and ensuring government programmes were implemented within set timelines. He urged departmental heads to work together, share information, and support each other’s mandates, noting that a coordinated approach would help eliminate duplication of efforts and ensure government services reach citizens more efficiently.
‘The success of government programmes depends on how well departments work together and coordinate their activities,’ said Gicheru. The meeting also provided an opportunity for heads of departments to present their respective mandates, ongoing programmes, and achievements while highlighting challenges encountered in implementing government projects and delivering services to the public.
Participants discussed various operational challenges and proposed measures to address them through improved coordination, timely communication, and joint interventions. The County Commissioner emphasized the need for departments to maintain regular engagement and promptly share information on government programmes, particularly those requiring multi-agency collaboration.
He said effective information sharing would enable departments to respond quickly to emerging challenges and ensure that government initiatives achieve their intended objectives. Gicheru further urged heads of departments to remain focused on their respective mandates while embracing teamwork to improve accountability and responsiveness in the delivery of public services.
He noted that collaboration was particularly important in programmes involving several government agencies, where delays or poor communication could affect implementation and deny residents timely access to services. The meeting is expected to strengthen coordination among National Government departments in Vihiga County and provide a platform for addressing emerging challenges affecting service delivery.
