Vihiga: Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo has emphasized the critical need for early and proactive planning in the development of local urban centers, taking into account the rapidly growing population. He highlighted the importance of ensuring that expanding settlements are well-structured and aligned with essential infrastructural projects.

According to Kenya News Agency, Governor Ottichilo shared these insights during a meeting with a team from the Africa Urban Lab. The team was led by Dr. Joseph Akech, the Kenya Team Leader of the Urban Expansion Program and former Mayor of Nairobi. The meeting, held at the governor’s office, centered on discussions about promoting economic growth and improving urban governance through strategic Urban Expansion Planning.

The discussions also explored potential partnerships aimed at advancing sustainable urban development within Vihiga County. Such collaborations are seen as pivotal in ensuring that urban growth is managed effectively and sustainably, aligning with broader development goals.
