Gambogi: Residents of Gambogi area in Hamisi Sub County, Vihiga County have called upon the security organs in the county to address rising insecurity issues in the area following the discovery of a decomposing body of an unidentified woman.
According to Kenya News Agency, Albert Idagiza, Chair of the Gambogi market, reported that he was informed in the morning by market cleaners about a foul smell coming from an unfinished market building. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the smell was emanating from a decomposing body of an unidentified woman wrapped in clothes.
Assistant Chief of Kitagwa Sub-location, Everlyne Singa, confirmed receiving a call from traders about the unpleasant smell. She contacted the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Gambogi Police Station, who found the decomposing body and involved the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI). The body was taken to Vihiga Teaching and Referral Hospital funeral home for further investigation.
Singa urged Gambogi residents to provide any information that could help identify the woman or resolve the case. Residents expressed concerns about security in the area, with rising incidents of murder and rape. They highlighted the non-functional security lights at the market and critiqued the slow response of security officers in urgent cases.
Everlyne Nawacho, a trader at Gambogi, pointed out that the deceased’s body was discovered at six in the morning, but it was not collected until one in the afternoon. She called on local leaders, including the area Member of Parliament, Charles Gimose, and Members of the County Assembly, to address the insecurity issues plaguing the area.
