Turkana: Residents of Lokichoggio, Turkana County, have called on the county government to ensure that all completed projects across the sub-county are handed over to the community. This demand was voiced by attendees at a budget public participation forum held in the area.
According to Kenya News Agency, the residents argued that the anticipated benefits of these projects have been lost. They specifically mentioned projects in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE), water, and health sectors as those requiring immediate handover due to their significant impact on the community. Joseph Longeem highlighted the urgency, stating that facilities like Ngigoloki ECDE in Lokichoggio and Lorus ECDE in Nanam should be ready to welcome young learners as the school term begins this week.
The residents also pressed the county government to clear pending bills, as some contractors have withheld project handovers due to unpaid work. Samwuel Ekale, Chief Officer for Economic Planning, expressed gratitude to the forum participants for their input, stating that their feedback would be instrumental in shaping the final budget proposals.
Lokichoggio Sub-county Administrator, Echip Obed, along with other officials, encouraged residents to take an active role in local projects by engaging in their management from inception to completion. The forum attendees included individuals from Songot, Nanam, and Lokichoggio Wards.
