Turkana Agripreneurs To Join President’s Launch Of Model Program

Wajir: At least 82 agripreneurs from Turkana are set to participate in the President’s launch of the Agripreneur model program. They will join 1,608 other agripreneurs from across the country for the event, which is scheduled to take place during the Annual Madaraka Day celebration in Wajir County. This year’s theme focuses on ‘Education, Skills and the Future.’

According to Kenya News Agency, the Agripreneur model program is supported by the Food Systems Resilience Project (FSRP) and aims to engage youth in the food security sector. The initiative is a crucial step toward enhancing agricultural productivity in Kenya. Addressing the agripreneurs, County Project Coordinator Victor Lochee emphasized their vital role in achieving the program’s objectives.

Lochee stated that the initiative seeks to improve last-mile extension service delivery, which is essential for increasing access to agricultural inputs, market linkages, modern technologies, and financial services for local farmers. “By ensuring there is increased access to these resources, we will strengthen food systems and build resilience,” Lochee said. He also urged participants to maintain decorum and discipline throughout the event.

Peter Lolem, the Governor’s advisor for resource mobilization and partnerships, reassured the team that the Governor is fully aware of the program and has pledged his support. The FSRP team accompanying the agripreneurs includes Simon Atot, Agribusiness Development Officer, Josephine Emase, Community Institutions Lead, Christine Ebei, Digital Agriculture Lead, Esther Ngikode, Administrator, among others.
