Nairobi: Five Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) in Rurii, Wamumu Ward, Kirinyaga County, are set to benefit from a Sh500,000 empowerment fund under the Women Economic Empowerment and Social Welfare Programme. The initiative is aimed at bolstering income-generating activities, improving household incomes, and enhancing the welfare of the members involved.
According to Kenya News Agency, the funds are being distributed through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF). Kirinyaga County Woman Representative Jane Njeri, speaking at the disbursement ceremony in Mwea, highlighted the need for increased government funding to NGAAF. She emphasized that additional financial support would allow the programme to reach its full potential in meeting its objectives.
Njeri pointed out that there is a significant demand for financial assistance among grassroots groups, with many organized entities seeking aid to either establish or expand their income-generating ventures. She reiterated her long-standing p
osition that NGAAF requires adequate funding to function effectively as intended.
The legislator explained that the Sh500,000 allocated to the five CBOs is part of a broader empowerment initiative aimed at assisting more than 100 groups across Kirinyaga County. This initiative is under the Women Economic Empowerment and Social Welfare Programme. The beneficiaries are expected to utilize these funds to invest in activities that will expand their enterprises, enhance their incomes, and improve the economic well-being of their families.
Njeri called on the beneficiaries to use the funds wisely and ensure that the support leads to the creation of sustainable economic opportunities within their communities.
