Isiolo: The Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) has encouraged small-scale entrepreneurs in Isiolo County to organize into cooperatives and business associations to improve their access to government grants, credit facilities, and enterprise development programs. Speaking at a business exhibition in Isiolo Town, MSEA CEO Henry Rithaa outlined the initiative as part of the government’s economic transformation plan aimed at empowering micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) across the country.
According to Kenya News Agency, Mr. Rithaa explained that formally organized groups are better positioned to benefit from coordinated support systems, improved resource access, and structured interventions that enhance business growth and competitiveness. He highlighted that cooperatives and associations are crucial in addressing shared challenges such as limited market access, insufficient financing, and skills or capacity limitations.
Mr. Rithaa emphasized that MSEA’s agenda involves establishing resilient business networks through training initiatives, stakeholder collaboration, and institutional backing, which can foster innovation, generate employment, and promote inclusive economic development. He identified sectors like camel milk production, poultry and horticulture farming, livestock trade, leather processing, and arts and crafts as key beneficiaries of the program.
Encouraging local camel milk producers to focus on value addition, Mr. Rithaa noted that government funding could assist them in acquiring necessary machinery and setting up processing plants. He also highlighted the upcoming Isiolo modern abattoir as an opportunity for livestock farmers and traders, advising them to prepare for increased livestock demand once the facility becomes operational.
Isiolo Deputy Governor Dr. James Lowasa pointed out that the completion of the Isiolo Aggregation Centre, along with the modern abattoir, would boost commercial activity and support the county’s economic growth. He urged investors to consider establishing leather tanning facilities to enhance value addition within the livestock industry.
Isiolo County Commissioner Chaunga Mwachaunga encouraged entrepreneurs to make full use of government programs that promote business growth and improve livelihoods. He advised local people to seek financial support for their economic activities and manage their businesses with discipline to achieve profitability and repay funds, thereby raising living standards.
