Bungoma: Teremi Boys High School in Bungoma County has been crowned the new Bungoma County Secondary School Sports Association (BCSSSA) football champions after edging out Kibabii School 1-0 in a thrilling final match held at the Bungoma High School grounds. The decisive goal came in the second half from a penalty, confidently converted by Teremi Boys defender Ronny Njoroge, alias Samba Boys.
According to Kenya News Agency, these fierce rivals were previously pooled in Group A, where Teremi also edged Kibabii 1-0, finishing at the top of the group while Kibabii proceeded as the second-placed team. The new champions played against Kimobo Boys in the quarter-finals, beating them 3-1, before facing Kabula Boys in the semi-finals, a game that was decided in a penalty shootout in favor of Teremi.
The School Chief Principal, Mr. Wakwabubi, hailed the efforts and commitment the players demonstrated to ensure they represent Bungoma County at the regional level. “I would like to give credit to the coaches and players for the good work done today and in the previous games,” he noted. He also acknowledged the level of maturity the fans displayed during the final, as they did not interfere with the game.
In other results, in the girls’ football category, Brenda Girls and Mbakalo Girls have qualified for the regional games slated for next week. In the volleyball boys’ category, Namwela and Chesamis will proceed to the Western regional competition. Meanwhile, in the volleyball girls’ category, Lugulu Girls and Savana Mixed will represent the county. In netball, Bukokholo and Moi Girls Kamusinga have earned their positions at the regional games.
In Rugby Sevens boys’ category, Friends School Kamusinga, Bungoma High School, Kibabii, and Chesamis Boys will proceed to the next level. In the girls’ category, Mbakalo, Kongit, Musembe, and Kimobo will take part in the competition.
