Limuru:The surveying of the Misri Informal Settlement has commenced in Limuru Municipality, marking a significant step for residents who have waited over 35 years for formal ownership of the land they occupy.
According to Kenya News Agency, the Department of Land, Housing, Physical Planning, and Municipalities in Kiambu County is leading the process. This includes detailed surveying, demarcation, beaconing, and cadastral work on approved parcels, laying the groundwork for processing title deeds for eligible landowners.
The exercise, overseen by Acting Director of Land Survey Andrew Nduati, includes participation from Limuru Municipal Manager Philip Mubea, Limuru East MCA Paul Macharia Wambui, Area Chief Rosemary Gathoni Kamau, and representatives from the Settlement Executive Committee and Grievance Redress Committee. The initiative aims to involve the community in the verification and surveying process.
Macharia Wambui emphasized the importance of this milestone, noting the long wait for families in Misri to receive formal documentation for their land. He mentioned that the goal is for eligible landowners to receive their title deeds by December, contingent on the completion of surveying and other necessary procedures.
The county government has allocated over Sh25 million to facilitate this effort, which will establish accurate parcel boundaries and cadastral records essential for formalizing land ownership. For the residents of Misri, this process is more than just land surveying; it represents securing property rights and restoring hope for families.
Misri’s inclusion in Kiambu County’s long-term plans for land-tenure formalization is supported by county planning documents and infrastructure improvements under the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project Phase Two. County records show that Part Development Plans for Misri have been completed, allowing for the issuance of title deeds to 470 beneficiaries.
The ongoing survey is a critical advancement in formalizing ownership for parcels still awaiting documentation, ultimately providing official parcel boundaries and cadastral records for residents to receive individual title deeds.
