State Assesses Madaraka Day Preparations in Wajir

Wajir: The Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Raymond Omollo, conducted an inspection tour of Wajir County on Thursday to assess the progress of preparations for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations scheduled for June 1, 2026. Dr. Omollo, who chairs the Steering Committee on National Celebrations, reported that preparations were advancing steadily, with the main stadium’s completion at 28 percent.

According to Kenya News Agency, Dr. Omollo expressed satisfaction with the current progress but stressed the need for increased speed to meet the set timelines. He emphasized the national significance of the event and the necessity of delivering it to the highest standards. The government has adopted a coordinated multi-agency approach to ensure the timely delivery of all projects, with implementing agencies working tirelessly to achieve key milestones.

Dr. Omollo highlighted the collaborative efforts of all relevant agencies under a unified framework to ensure seamless delivery. Every aspect of the preparations is being closely monitored to guarantee quality, safety, and timely completion. In addition to the stadium, the government is focusing on key supporting infrastructure, including the expansion and upgrading of the airport, improvement of road networks, strengthening of security arrangements, and development of accommodation facilities.

The preparations extend beyond the stadium, with an equal focus on critical infrastructure such as the airport, road networks, and security systems to ensure Wajir is fully prepared to host the nation. Dr. Omollo reiterated the government’s policy of rotating national celebrations across regions to promote inclusivity and national cohesion while delivering lasting development benefits to host counties.

He expressed confidence that all preparations would be completed on time and extended an invitation to Kenyans to attend the celebrations in Wajir. Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, North Eastern Regional Commissioner John Otieno, and Government Spokesperson Dr. Isaac Mwaura were among the officials present during the inspection.
