Nairobi: The private sector in Bondo subcounty has been encouraged to embrace public-private partnership arrangements to support the implementation of Curriculum Based Education (CBE) in the region.
According to Kenya News Agency, Bondo subcounty director of education Alfred Mwaimba emphasized that the delivery of quality education is a shared responsibility and should not be left in the hands of the Ministry of Education alone. Mwaimba made these remarks at Gobei Comprehensive School during the donation of learning materials facilitated by the Walter Okelo Foundation.
Mwaimba highlighted the critical role that private sector and philanthropic institutions could play in ensuring the successful implementation of CBE in the region. He noted that while the government invests significantly in education through initiatives like teacher recruitment, curriculum reforms, and infrastructure development, partnerships with private entities such as the Walter Okelo Foundation are essential to ensure that no learner is left behind.
He further observed that the provision of books and learning materials by the government is not always sufficient, underscoring the importance of public-private arrangements to bridge these gaps for the benefit of learners.
Mr. Walter Okelo, CEO of the Walter Okelo Foundation, stated the initiative of donating textbooks to schools in Siaya County, including Gobei, supports CBE’s implementation, which is resource-intensive for both parents and the government. Okelo encouraged other well-wishers in the region to contribute learning resources to schools rather than relying solely on government provisions.
Okelo also mentioned that private sector support for CBE should address teachers’ welfare needs to ensure effective delivery of education.
