Accra:Spotify has announced the rollout of audiobooks in Kenya, providing both Free and Premium users a new way to enjoy books alongside their favorite music and podcasts on the platform. Starting from October 14, 2026, over 350,000 audiobook titles will be available for listeners in Kenya.
According to Kenya News Agency, this launch is part of Spotify’s global expansion of audiobooks, which aims to increase availability from 22 to more than 180 markets by the end of 2026. The initiative will give over 750 million people the chance to stream or purchase audiobooks on Spotify.
Spotify offers a subscription service, Audiobooks+, that allows 15 hours of audiobook listening each month for KES 489, with an option to buy a 10-hour top-up for KES 589. Individual titles are also available for purchase. Features for convenient listening include Page Match, a dedicated audiobooks space in the app, a Sleep Timer, and an option to listen offline.
Owen Smith, Vice President of Audiobooks at Spotify, highlighted the potential for authors and publishers to reach a broader audience. Spotify’s non-exclusive audiobook partnerships allow local publishers and self-published authors in Kenya to upload their content and reach listeners across global markets. The catalogue is expected to grow as new partners and local authors contribute their work.
