Sports Official Calls For Fairness During The Ball Games

Makueni: The Eastern Region Secondary Schools Sports Association (ERSSA) Chairperson, Dr. Bernard Mutunga, has challenged sports officials and referees to uphold fairness and discipline, while teams play during the ball games term II.

According to Kenya News Agency, Dr. Mutunga made these remarks at Makueni Boys High School, located in Makueni Sub-county, during the official opening of the Eastern Region Ball Games. The event attracted participants from eight counties, each bringing students to engage in various sports activities.

While encouraging participants to play with passion and show respect towards their opponents, Dr. Mutunga emphasized the importance of this platform as an opportunity to showcase talents and nurture skills. He urged all participants to compete with honesty and integrity, adhering to the rules of the game.

Dr. Mutunga assured the participants and officials of all necessary support throughout the ongoing games, which commenced on the 9th and are set to conclude on Sunday, the 12th, 2026.

Speaking during the same event, Makueni County Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Executive Secretary, Justus Kimeu, praised the Makueni county government’s efforts in empowering youth through talent development. Kimeu noted that such initiatives provide hope and a brighter future for the youth, equipping them with skills to excel in sports.

Kimeu applauded the governor’s commitment, citing the success of Makueni in the Kenya Youth Inter-County Sports Association (KYISA) Games as evidence of the investment in youth empowerment and talent development.

Makueni County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Gender, Youth, Sports, and Social Services, Eng. Sabastian Kyoni, assured participants of the county government’s preparations to ensure safety during the event. He highlighted the county’s collaboration with the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) to organize the regional games as a testament to their commitment to nurturing sporting talent.

Eng. Kyoni expressed satisfaction with the partnership, stating that the county government would continue its efforts with teachers, coaches, and sports officials to ensure the smooth running of the competition, maintaining high standards of organization and athlete welfare.
