Sponsored Scholars Urged To Work Hard

Learners sponsored by both Equity group foundation and Elimu scholarship have been urged to work hard and be ready to give back to the society.
Speaking to beneficiaries of the scholarships from Busia and Bungoma counties at Butula High school, Busia County Director Thaddeus Awuor, said that both the government and Equity Bank have invested a lot in the bright but needy students.
“Right now you are children of the Ministry of Education and Equity bank and your responsibility is not to disappoint the two entities,” he said, adding that what is expected from them is nothing but excellence.
Awuor added that the beneficiaries were selected in a transparent manner and they performed well in their respective schools.
“We also expect you to be some of the most disciplined students because any form of indiscipline will lead to immediate disqualification from the scholarship,” he said.
He advised the scholars to refrain from drug and substance abuse if they want to continue with the scholarship. “We also expect you to set targets with the aim of supporting your parents after completing your education,’ he said.
The CD at the same time, advised the learners to have a positive attitude explaining that their future would be determined. “We also want you to put more efforts in science subjects so that you can be able to transform this country,” he said.
Awuor argued that the scholars could only be able to drive poverty from their homes through education.
Busia County Quality Assurance Officer, William Makori, urged the learners to use the opportunity to transform their future.
Makori further advised the students to play their roles by applying the skills taught by their teachers.
“Teachers will impart values but it is the students who will apply them according to the norms and the rules of the society,” he said.
The three day mentorship forum was organized by the Equity Group foundation led by Busia Equity Bank branch Manager, Oscar Masinde.
The forum was attended by 1,500 beneficiaries of Equity Wings to fly and Elimu Scholarship from Busia and Bungoma Counties.
