The Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Prof George Magoha has reiterated that the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education candidates will know the placement of their schools by Monday.
Speaking during the commissioning of two Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms at Nyondia and Karai Secondary Schools in Naivasha, the CS reassured parents and over 1.2 million candidates that due process in placement for form one slots has been followed based on merit and performance.
The CS also said the ministry is on schedule in marking the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams with candidates set to have their results by the end of this month.
Prof Magoha noted that the government backed Elimu scholarship program for students from disadvantaged backgrounds will benefit 9,000 applicants from around the country through the Ministry of Education.
He observed that only students who have been unable to secure any other form of scholarship will benefit from the program.
“The selection team will visit individual homes of the applicant to ascertain their eligibility for the scholarship,” said Magoha, adding that the ministry officials will get in touch with the many students who want to benefit from the program to enable them to join.
The CS reaffirmed that the ministry will ensure that the vetting exercise to select the most deserving students for the scholarship program will be transparent and accountable.
On the form one school selection exercise, Magoha said that candidates who sat their examinations from areas which experienced security issues and other calamities such as Baringo County will be fairly considered in the spirit of affirmative action.
Additionally, Magoha said that the construction of the CBC classrooms has achieved a 90 percent success rate in the country while some regions in Baringo and Lamu with an average rate of 70 percent.
