Sophia Abdi Noor Endorsed for Ijara Parliamentary Seat in 2027 General Election

Ijara: The Hassan Adan sub-clan of the greater Ogaden community has endorsed former Ijara legislator Sophia Abdi Noor to contest the Ijara parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election. The endorsement was the result of three days of deliberations and consultations by elders, who expressed confidence in Abdi’s leadership.

According to Kenya News Agency, Abdi addressed the community after her endorsement in Ijara Sub-County, urging candidates who were not selected to accept the outcome and support the endorsed candidate for the benefit of the sub-clan and the Ijara Constituency. Abdi, who was elected as Ijara MP in 2017, encouraged the community to build a strong and inclusive campaign team similar to the one from her previous successful campaign.

Speaking to residents at Bulaqoqon on the outskirts of Ijara town, Abdi expressed confidence in reclaiming the parliamentary seat if the community worked together. She mentioned her willingness to share the strategies that led to her 2017 victory, emphasizing the importance of unity and collaboration.

Abdi advised her supporters against premature celebrations, acknowledging that securing the parliamentary seat would be a challenging journey. She appealed to youth, women, and elders to support her campaign strategy and contribute to a successful bid in the 2027 elections.

Abdi pledged to focus on promoting girls’ education, supporting orphanage centers, and improving infrastructure, water, healthcare, and education in both Ijara Constituency and Garissa County. Additionally, she promised to enhance social health services and strengthen the role of community health workers to improve healthcare access.

In the upcoming 2027 general election, Abdi is expected to face competition from the incumbent Ijara MP Abdi Ali Sheikhow and Bashir Beynah Maktal.
