Mumias: Western Regional Commissioner Irungu Macharia has called upon security committees in the region to pinpoint potential hotspots and incidents that could incite violence within communities. Speaking at a regional security meeting at Mumias Cultural Centre, Macharia emphasized the importance of increasing surveillance as the nation approaches the 2027 general election. He assured that the National Government Administration officers (NGAO) are committed to maintaining peace before, during, and after the elections.
According to Kenya News Agency, Macharia stressed the need for a proactive stance, urging officers to gather advance information to prevent being caught unprepared. He highlighted the importance of addressing sensitive issues such as boundary disputes and resource-based conflicts before they escalate into violence.
Macharia also appealed for political tolerance, reminding politicians to adhere to the political decency charter signed in 2017. He stated that the security team, in collaboration with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), will focus on early warning systems to ensure peaceful coexistence among communities.
NCIC Commissioner Dorcas Kedogo echoed the call for cooperation between security teams and the commission. She emphasized the need to resolve disputes and disagreements promptly to prevent them from escalating into community violence.
