Rider Abandons Motorcycle, Escapes After He Was Intercepted Transporting Illicit Brew

Masogo: Police officers from Masogo Police Post intercepted a motorcycle transporting illicit brew along the Onyalobiro – Lwanda Magere road in Muhoroni Sub-County, recovering 60 liters of chang’aa.

According to Kenya News Agency, the rider upon seeing the officers in routine patrol, abandoned the heavily laden motorcycle and fled on foot within Masogo area on Monday night. The ready-to-consume chang’aa, packed in three 20-litre jerricans, was intended for illegal distribution in local dens within the volatile Nyangoma/Masogo ward.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has impounded the abandoned motorcycle and investigation is ongoing to apprehend and arraign the fleeing suspect. Police in the area has reassured the sustained crackdown on the production, distribution, and consumption of illicit brews in an effort to safeguard public health, reduce alcohol-related harm, and promote safer and healthier communities.

Authorities have intensified a crackdown on illicit brews in Muhoroni Sub-County, with a
multi-agency team established to heighten the operations to eliminate illegal alcohol dens and ensure that those involved in the unlawful trade are brought to justice.
