Rachuonyo Residents Assured of Security During Festivities

Kisumu: Rachuonyo South Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Denis Kieti, has assured residents of maximum security in this festive season. The Deputy County Commissioner stated that security agencies will be on patrol across the sub-county, urging residents to enjoy their Christmas and New Year festivities peacefully.

According to Kenya News Agency, Kieti cautioned parents against allowing their children to roam without supervision, highlighting risks such as crime, drugs, and alcohol. He urged parents to guide their children to prevent engagement in illicit activities that could lead to legal troubles and jeopardize their futures.

Kieti emphasized that children found loitering in town without purpose or visiting entertainment venues will be detained, and their parents will need to explain the situation. He stressed that child security begins at home and urged parents to remain vigilant about their children’s whereabouts, even as the government enhances security measures.

Speaking during the 62nd Jamhuri Day celebration, Kieti also addressed the issue of child labor in artisanal mining areas. He urged parents to ensure children remain in school and not partake in labor activities. The government is closely monitoring the situation and plans to take action against those employing children in mining.

Erick Joachim, the sub-county administrator, called for greater collaboration between the county and national government to regulate gold mining activities, aiming to protect children and ensure community benefits from mining operations.
