Bungoma: Transport along major roads in Bungoma County was paralyzed as Public Service vehicles withdrew from the major routes in solidarity with a countrywide protest over hiked fuel prices. Drivers of the Public Service vehicles parked their matatus at the main bus stop in Bungoma town, leaving passengers stranded.
According to Kenya News Agency, the drivers expressed concerns for the safety of their vehicles amidst the nationwide strike organized by matatu operators protesting the high cost of fuel. Passengers, stranded due to the lack of transport, reported canceling their trips. Those traveling short distances resorted to using motorcycles to reach their destinations.
Most petrol stations in the area remained open but reported minimal sales amidst the transport paralysis. Despite the disruption in transport, business operations in Bungoma town continued as usual, with major shops and banks remaining open.
