Nairobi: Public servants in Nairobi County have been called upon to be citizen-centric whenever they are providing government services.
According to Kenya News Agency, the incoming Nairobi Regional Commissioner (RC) Gilbert Kitiyo emphasized that public servants should be well-versed with government policies, projects, and programs to effectively guide citizens in their roles as beneficiaries. Kitiyo highlighted the importance of integrity, diligence, and punctuality in the execution of duties by government employees.
Kitiyo underscored the necessity of timely service delivery paired with positive public relations to ensure the satisfaction of the citizens. This message was delivered during his familiarization visit to Starehe and Kamukunji sub-counties, where he met with National Government Administration Officers and departmental heads from multiple ministries.
He further reiterated that government services should be provided without charge, except for those requiring payment, where the amount should be exact. Kitiyo also encouraged the officers to embrace teamwork to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery, stressing that leadership and thorough understanding of their roles are crucial for successful coordination of government functions.
Flanked by Nairobi County Commissioner David Wanyonyi and Nairobi Regional Administration Police Commander Peter Chemos, Kitiyo pointed out the importance of understanding policies such as the SHA, the Chiefs Act, the Environment Act, the Registration of Persons Act, and the 100 percent school transition policy. He noted that clear communication of these projects and policies in an understandable language would encourage public participation and care for government projects.
He urged chiefs and their assistants to ensure all school-going children are admitted as per the 100 percent transition policy to reduce criminal activities. Additionally, Kitiyo called for administrators to promote peace-building and mobilize public registration for SHA and affordable housing initiatives, linking citizens with beneficial opportunities.
Kitiyo advised public servants to coordinate and monitor development projects and escalate any implementation issues to the relevant authorities. He emphasized the importance of good leadership qualities and consultation for increased efficiency.
The RC noted that a significant portion of public issues is psychological, urging officers to serve with decorum and effective communication to ensure public satisfaction.
