Migori: State Department for Public Investments and Assets Management Principal Secretary Cyrrel Odede has urged Migori youth to register as voters to fulfil their civic and democratic duty come 2027. Odede, who spoke during an engagement meeting with residents of God Jope Ward in Suna East Sub-County, emphasized that youth are the future of the country and that by registering as voters, they will have a say in electing leaders they want.

According to Kenya News Agency, Odede committed to work closely with the local administration to ensure that all the uncollected Identification Cards (ID’s) at the Huduma centre and registration offices are handed over to Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs for easier collection at the sub-location ward. The PS disclosed that some of the reasons for the uncollected ID cards among the youth are a lack of the ‘half ID’s, which got lost during the waiting period.

Odede stated, ‘I have engaged with the Chiefs on how to assist in the identification process for those youths who lost their half IDs. We want these youths to be issued with their IDs to fully participate in the coming 2027 elections.’ He further explained that he will work closely with the local authority and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials to ensure they meet the set target of 65,000 new voters before the close of the exercise on May 5.

According to the Migori County Election Manager, Ben Moseti, one of the challenges highlighted by the youths was the delay in the issuance of Identification Cards (IDs). The officials noted that his office has already engaged with the office of Registration of Persons and the County Commissioner’s Office on how the process can be fastened to ensure the youths receive their IDs before the close of the registration period.
