Kirinyaga central: Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary (PS) Mary Muthoni has urged Kenyans to disregard what she termed as propaganda surrounding the Social Health Authority (SHA), emphasizing that the programme continues to provide essential services to many citizens.
According to Kenya News Agency, Muthoni, speaking during a Kanisa Mashinani prayer service at ACK St. Philips Kiang’ombe Church in Kirinyaga Central, encouraged the public to judge SHA based on the benefits it delivers to over 30 million registered Kenyans rather than focusing on political criticism. She highlighted that SHA continues to be a vital resource for many Kenyans, noting that some critics may not fully appreciate its importance due to their lack of experience with serious illness or their financial ability to afford private medical insurance.
The PS cautioned Kenyans against being misled by political rhetoric and urged them to consider the tangible impact of SHA on ordinary citizens. Muthoni also raised concerns about politically motivated violence, warning political leaders against endangering the lives of innocent Kenyans in their pursuit of power. She called for ‘political hygiene’ as the country prepares for the next General Election, advocating for peaceful campaigning.
Muthoni emphasized that political competition should focus on policies, agendas, and manifestos rather than resorting to violence, urging leaders to engage peacefully throughout the campaign period. Furthermore, she acknowledged the critical role that churches play in promoting public health by disseminating public messages that encourage healthy living and disease prevention.
