PS Bitok Encourages Youth to Boost Kenya Tourism Through Content Creation

Eldoret: The Principal Secretary of the State Department for Tourism, Prof. Julius Bitok, has called on the youth of Kenya to engage in content creation as a means to promote the nation’s tourism sector. He emphasized the importance of marketing Kenya’s scenic beauty online to support the government’s initiative to double the number of tourists visiting the country annually-from the current 2.5 million to a target of 5 million.

According to Kenya News Agency, Prof. Bitok made these remarks in Eldoret during the distribution of the second installment of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Business Capital program. This initiative targets the counties of Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and Elgeyo-Marakwet. He highlighted that the Kenya Tourism Board’s goal of attracting 5 million tourists could be realized with the youth’s assistance in promoting Kenya’s scenic landscapes on social media platforms, encouraging global audiences to explore the country.

Prof. Bitok advised the youth to use the NYOTA support grant to acquire necessary equipment like smartphones, which can be instrumental in generating income through content creation. He encouraged them to produce short video clips, documentaries, and photographs to share on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.

Additionally, Prof. Bitok mentioned that the Kenya Tourism Board is in the process of implementing a policy that will create job opportunities for top content creators in the fields of tourism and wildlife production. He urged the youth to use their smartphones wisely, focusing on creating content that showcases Kenya’s natural beauty, thereby attracting more tourists.
