Funyula: The Prime Cabinet Secretary and CS for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, has called for the prudent use of the National Government Constituency Development Funds (NG-CDF) to ensure accountability and that Kenyans get value for the taxes they pay diligently. Speaking during the commissioning of 16 classrooms at Moody Awori Primary School in Funyula constituency on Monday, Mudavadi said there is a need to protect the funds from being misused.

According to Kenya News Agency, Mudavadi emphasized the importance of using the CDF properly to show taxpayers how their money is being utilized. He urged the managing board to seal all loopholes in the CDF. He also praised the former Vice President, Moody Awori, for his legacy in the education sector, highlighting the infrastructure improvements at Moody Awori Primary School, a top-performing institution in the area.

Mudavadi noted the construction of a Sh39.5 million double-storey tuition block funded significantly by Funyula CDF, which will reduce student congestion and improve the learning environment. The CDF also supported a water project benefitting both the school and the surrounding community, including local institutions and households.

He encouraged local residents to engage in cotton farming, citing the available market for textiles and the potential profits. He mentioned ongoing efforts to facilitate cross-border movement with Uganda to improve market access for cash crops like cotton.

Former Vice President Moody Awori, founder of Moody Awori Primary School, highlighted the need for schools to embrace technology to foster self-employment skills among learners. He stressed the importance of coordination between teachers, parents, and the community to achieve good results in schools, awarding tablets to top-performing students.

Budalang’i MP Raphael Wanjala defended the NG-CDF, highlighting its role in initiating development projects in previously underdeveloped areas. He urged stakeholders to support the continuation of the fund to ensure equal development.

Funyula MP Wilberforce Mudenyo advocated for the opening of the Mulwanda crossing point to ease congestion in Busia and boost the local economy. He acknowledged government support for ongoing projects aimed at benefiting the community.
