Busia:Police in Busia County have seized 59 kilograms of bhang valued at Sh1.7 million and arrested two suspects for alleged possession and transportation of the illegal substance from Uganda to Nairobi. The operation took place at the Suo roadblock following a tip-off from the public.
According to Kenya News Agency, Busia County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Wesley Lagat reported that the bhang was concealed in two sacks of cassava and transported in a Fuso lorry carrying maize. The police have identified the individual responsible for loading the consignment and have launched an investigation to determine the owner of the bhang.
The arrested suspects are being processed for court arraignment on charges related to possession and transportation of the illegal substance. Officer Lagat emphasized that security agencies have intensified surveillance and operations to combat drug trafficking and urged the public to provide crucial information to aid law enforcement efforts.
Lagat noted an increase in bhang trafficking cases in the county, attributing it to the numerous porous border routes exploited by traffickers. He highlighted recent seizures as evidence of the rising illegal trade and affirmed that patrols have been intensified to address the issue.
Security officers have also arrested several motorcycle riders suspected of transporting bhang, and Lagat promised continued operations to dismantle trafficking networks in the region.
