Parents in Kajiado County have welcomed the move by the Ministry of Education to move school reopening dates from 11th August to 15 August as announced earlier.
Speaking to KNA in Isinya town, Kajiado East constituency, a cross section of parents who spoke to KNA said that the move will not only enable them time to look for fees but will also ensure their children travel to school when political temperatures in the country have gone down.
“I expect presidential results to be announced latest Friday and am sure by Monday next week, operations will have gone back to normal,” said Jane Kariuki, a parent in one of the local schools in the area.
Ms. Kariuki added that since some parts of the country are usually marred with political violence after the general election, it is prudent to gauge political temperatures first before allowing children back in school.
Another parent, Kipainoi Lemein noted that the extension of the midterm break gives him more time to work for the school balances for his three children.
“I have two children in primary schools within the county and one in secondary school. Due to the ongoing drought, I haven’t been able to clear their fees as I normally depend on livestock sales which don’t fetch much now,” Lemein said.
In a Press release dispatched by the Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha early Wednesday, the Education Ministry stated that all basic education institutions will open on 15th August 2022 as opposed to 11th August 2022.
“We have been informed that the process of tallying of ballots may still be ongoing on the aforementioned date. Therefore, following further consultations, I hereby convey the government’s decision that basic education institutions will re-open from Monday, 15th August,” read the Press release
