Nairobi: Over 6,600 students from Teso North Constituency have been awarded bursaries totaling Sh75 million to support their education in secondary schools and other institutions.
According to Kenya News Agency, this financial aid was distributed on Monday, with students both within and outside the constituency benefiting from the funds.
A breakdown of the disbursement reveals that Sh15 million was allocated to 200 students studying outside the constituency, while Sh35 million was distributed among 6,000 students within Teso North. The initiative, championed by Teso North MP Oku Kaunya, also includes bursaries for students in special programs such as medicine, law, engineering, and aviation.
Additionally, the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) has sponsored 400 students to pursue education at KMTC Teso Campus and other international campuses. Dr. Kaunya noted that an additional Sh30 million has yet to be disbursed, earmarked specifically for university students, with each receiving Sh5,000. Among the beneficiaries, St Marks ACK Machakusi received Sh465,000.
St Monica Chakol Girls, with 88 students, and St Paul’s Amukura, with 22 students from Teso North, each received Sh5,000 per student. Teremi Boys from Bungoma County were granted Sh220,000. Other schools that benefited from the bursaries include Tamulega, Bishop Eliud Wabukakala, and Chaele Girls, among others.
