Oburu Oginga Urges Party Renegades to Depart ODM

Siaya: Dr. Oburu Oginga, leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has openly challenged party renegades to depart and join formations where they feel more at ease. Addressing a political rally in Siaya town, Oburu, accompanied by top party officials, including three cabinet secretaries, clarified that ODM will not force anyone out but emphasized that those feeling uneasy are free to leave of their own accord.

According to Kenya News Agency, Oburu asserted that the party is entering negotiations with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ahead of the next general elections. He highlighted that discussions with UDA would revolve around policies, development programs, and power-sharing arrangements, underscoring the notion that no political party is established to remain in opposition indefinitely. Oburu remarked on the party’s prolonged period in opposition and its intent to transition.

Ali Hassan Joho and ODM party chairperson Gladys Wanga confirmed that ODM aims to be part of the next government. Wanga emphasized the party’s dedication to implementing its 10-point agenda, which includes compensation for post-election violence victims and initiatives for youth and women empowerment.

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohammed stated that ODM would resist any intimidation attempts. Cabinet secretaries Opiyo Wandayi and John Mbadi reiterated the legitimacy of the Oburu-led faction as the authentic ODM leadership. Other notable speakers at the rally included legislators Samuel Atandi (Alego/Usonga) and Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), along with Busia Governor Paul Otuoma.
